"Brouwer has a talent for taking the simplest melody and through her expansive array of compositional techniques, develop it into a polished musical gem. And even when employing a twelve-tone row, Brouwer never ventures into the realm of compositional gimmickry. Every note she writes has musical purpose." - ClevelandClassical

In June 2024, Naxos released a new album of Brouwer’s Orchestral Music recorded by the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Marin Alsop.

"a composer unafraid to channel honest (and jarring) emotion through thoughtfully chosen instruments and textures...Beautiful programmatic language...Even within a highly atmospheric orchestral work, the composer can still derive intrigue through a combination of conventional and adventurous writing...This is a wonderful collection of works from Brouwer...it is her bold and uncompromising voice that proves most exciting. Alsop and the ORF ensemble do these works absolute justice in these readings. Highly recommended." - The Classic Review

Grammy award-winning Masumi Per Rostad playing Brouwer’s Concerto for Viola and Orchestra at Grant Park Music Festival in July 2021. In reviewing the performance, Chicago Classical Review said, "Brouwer’s style is tonal and her melodic writing falls easily on the ear. There are inspired moments and it’s hard to resist the big, expansive tune at the end of the opening movement."

A conversation between Masumi Rostad and Margaret Brouwer about her Viola Concerto
